Die Fledermaus

Die Fledermaus

Gabriel von Eisenstein • NYU Steinhardt • 2025

Johann Strauss II's beloved operetta Die Fledermaus was reimagined at NYU Steinhardt in a vibrant new production set in Gilded Age New York. Directed by A. Scott Perry, who adapted the work into English while preserving its timeless wit and effervescent charm, the production blended elegant period style with lively storytelling. As Gabriel von Eisenstein, I had the opportunity to explore the role's rich vocal writing, comedic timing, and larger-than-life personality in one of the operatic repertoire's most celebrated comic works. Performed in the Iris Cantor Theatre with a full orchestra, the production celebrated the glamour, humor, and theatrical spectacle that continue to make Die Fledermaus a favorite with audiences.
